What to Expect on a Campus Tour

The best way to determine whether or not you feel comfortable at a university is to go and visit the campus! The more schools you visit, the better you can decide which school is right for you. Prepare yourself before your tour with a list of questions you’d like to ask the representative.

Some good questions to ask are:

1. What’s the student population at your school?

2. What’s the student to faculty ratio at your school? What’s the average class size?

3. What’s the student demographics on campus?

4. Is there an active campus life?

5. How many students live on campus? What can you tell me about resident hall life?

6. What kind of scholarships are available? What about financial aid?

7. What kind of support services are available for students? Tutoring? Advisement?

8. What academic programs is your school known for?

9. What makes your school different from other Universities in the state/country?

10. What are the costs to attend your school?

If you ask these ten questions, you should have a good grasp of what a university is like. The key to visiting a campus is to be proactive by asking questions and taking notes. It’s also important to be observant and look around. If you feel comfortable on campus, that’s very important as well!

At UNM, we offer campus tours, housing tours, an appointment with a University Representative and a meeting with someone who can speak to you about your intended major. Give us a call to set up your tour today!

If you plan to come to UNM in the fall, you must attend orientation so sign up today before all the spots are full.

For students who are about to be seniors, juniors or sophomores: the best thing you can do this summer is to go on a campus tour. UNM has tours available Monday through Friday, twice a day. You can also go on a housing tour to check out our resident halls. Click here to arrange a tour!
